It's not bad. Hugely derivative of Neil Gaiman's short story style, actually. And that idea of the "thinny" is lifted from Stephen King piecemeal.

I validated it on SH, and it's not bad. No masterpiece, and overly pretentious in my not very humble opinion. There are too many fic writers adopting an over high style and sacrificing elegance and clarity, for overblown metaphor.

But at least it is a bit different from run of the mill marriage challenges, and that can't hurt.

Hi, I've always love the short story style. I didn't felt it was pretensious at all. I have to ways of looking for quality, the fic one and RL text one.
If I ask my self: Is there any fanfic I would by in bookstore? Honestly none. Even if there are lots that have provded me lots of goon entertaiment hours.
About elegance and clarity I agree with you, there are lots of megalomaniac fics over there.
Any rec? I'm starving for a fic right now!
