Rickmans brief or boxers?

Could you belive a thread like that?

Please, this week fandom has been awfull.

Since when I'm such a snobbish? But please, that and the rudness, and name calling. Insulting the authors, having a "client" attitude towards the fics...So childish.

If an author as [livejournal.com profile] kalinalea said she wont be finishing her fic. What's the great deal? At least she has been polite enough as to announce the reasons and warn the readers. I would have like to seen that fic finished, same with [livejournal.com profile] pigwidgeon37 TSO , but, please that it is not a reason for star accusing people of lack of ethics (snort).

Thanks La Guera for Favour conceed.

Thank you so much for your kind words, but please don't be upset on *my* account. I happen to agree with the original poster, actually, that in starting to post a WiP, an author incurs a certain obligation to finish it. It is not something I've ever taken lightly, and I feel terrible about not meeting that obligation. I think there are authors out there who do take it lightly, however, and if my experience makes them think twice about starting something they might not be able to finish, that won't be a bad thing. It's certainly a legitimate area of discussion for WIKTT, it has remained civil, as far as I've seen, and it has the advantage of being more intellectually stimulating than a retread of the boxers/briefs business!

It hurts that in doing this I've damaged my own reputation as a "finisher" - something I've worked diligently to earn since I've been in fandom - but I've no one to blame for that but myself. The bottom line is that my obligation to my family and my own sanity (as it relates to the need for relaxation during what free time I have) outweighs the obligation I have to readers. The easy thing to do would have been to just quit updating and fade away, but I thought the readers deserved better than that - and deserved the opportunity to criticize me publicly, if that's what they wanted to do. I accepted public praise for the story, so it's only fair to allow censure in the same forum. If my ethics are questioned in the process, then so be it. I think it would have been less ethical to continue to let the story go months and months between updates, because I just couldn't face writing it most of the time, or to rush through and post sub-standard work just to get it off my plate, but I realize that not everyone would agree with me about that.

I had a feeling that the people who "knew" me would understand and rally. Thank you so much for being a part of that.
