Some people think Zen is simply a type of meditation, but I don't think of it that way. Zen is an offshot of Buddhism, heavily influced by Taoism. It's called Chan Buddhism in China. However, you need not change any other spiritual convictions you already have to practice it.
I am a follower of Zen. For me personally, Zen is a way of looking at life in the most simple, realistic and joyful terms possible. But I cannot give you a definitive meaning of Zen. The Masters say that no one can, for there truly is none, and you should never trust anyone that does! ;)
Zen should be what you make of it through your own personal experience, awareness, meditation and observation.
