So, it is dreamwith for me now. I'm sad. I'd been part of Livejournal community since 2004 (or 2003). There is no way I will blindly agree with some unknown term of service in a cryptic language. Part of me want to just agree and pretend that nothing will happen, though.

I agreed long enough to get my account moved over here, but now begins the phasing out of LJ!

It is better to be safe than to be sorry.

What worries me is that I know one person whose account has already been suspended.

In the meanwhile, I'm encouraging people who manage LJ communities to move them over here ASAP!

I suspect that the person whose account got suspended clicked "no" on the terms of use agreement.

I'll never say never but since my friends list is made from so many people with so many different backgrounds and not just one tribe of closely knit SSHG shippers, I do not think that I will be migrating because it seems pretty much impossible to re-create my friendslist here.

As for the user agreement – yes, that was pretty typically of LJ since the non-Russian userbase was always an afterthought to SUP. But can anyone in all honesty tell me that they read and understood all the laws that were in the original terms of use 14 years ago? But we trusted it more because... it was in the U.S.?

Personally I trust neither, and companies never. So I'll see how things develop over at LJ and perhaps back some things up for reasons of nostalgia here and then just stop blogging if nobody's around anymore. *shrugs*

All my fics are on AO3 anyway, all my pictures on photobucket.

Look, the way I see it – SUP who owns LJ for over seven years now has always been really half-assed in how they treat their English speaking posters. I figure that with the server move to Russia a couple of months ago, now that everything is physically in Russia they had to make a new user agreement that goes with Russian law. That it was "forced" – you know, itunes doesn't let you download anything either unless you agree every few months to new terms of service. So while it would have been nice to know that it was coming, it's just what companies do. Itunes doesn't inform me either that "oh by the way in a few days we'll have you sign a new user agreement".
Do I like how Russia treats LGBTQ people and political activists? No, absolutely not. I know I'm often not taken seriously because I'm only the "B" in the equation and get a lot of hatred for it especailly from the "L"s but still. One has to remember that SUP is not the Russian government, it's merely a Russian company. I don't think there's more reason now than a couple of days ago to believe that they will delete your account.
Apart from you only two other people on my LJ f-list have left or started crossposting (and one of them I don't particularly like) so the people I have in my circle here use DW mainly as a back-up for their LJ as do I because back-up is always good. I wrote this in January in a post – I know it's hard to keep up with two social media platforms that are so much the same, so I've been very disappointed in the past to comment when people were crossposting and never received a reply. That's not how I want interaction to go. So I don't reply to crossposted entries anymore. (Unless I see that someone can be trusted to still interact.)
I can't deny that it would be lovely to still have everyone in one place and I'm not picky as to which one but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. I've "beautified" my DW just in case but it's unlikely. And I don't like posting into a void and I don't like having barely anyone on my reading list.
My friend S. made some more eloquent arguments here:
Personally I'll just see how everything develops over the next months and always back-up to here. I feel that's all that I can do.

I generally don't like where the world is going so...

As I said, I'm not opposed to migrating but hardly anyone from my LJ f-list and my DW reading list is pretty empty so... but I try to add as many people as possible here in case the sky is falling down one day. Though of course that's no guarantee that people actually start posting here. I remember the last exodus and the one before that. People said they'd be posting here and then they went to Facebook or twitter and those are platforms I cannot see myself using.

I hope you are well and have a happy Easter!
